Registered Manager

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Children's Home Manager to join our team in Carlisle to effectively and efficiently manage a dedicated home within A Wilderness Way Ltd. The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day monitoring and operation of an 'oustanding' registered children’s home catering for both young people in a longer-term care setting through to outreach crisis intervention services, embedding our ethos of utilising the outdoors to support young people through their journey.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of managing a small home or be looking to take their next step from an Assistant Manager position, working with young people with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. We provide a range of adventurous activities in line with our AALA License.

You will be a highly motivated individual with a good level of flexibility and commitment to making a positive difference to our young people’s lives by supporting and leading a team of dedicated residential care workers.

Main Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • To take overall responsibility for all staff, delegating effectively and appropriately.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of their responsibilities in relation to adherence of policies, both in the home, the organisation and those set out in Children's Legislation and Regulations.
  • Ensure all staff adhere to and work within the policies and procedures established in the organisation and the home.
  • Develop and make known to staff a variety of intervention strategies regarding behaviour management in order that children can develop coping mechanisms and changes in patterns of behaviour.
  • Take a lead in ensuring meetings and reviews of children and staff are delivered within required time scales.
  • Ensure effective delivery of individual care planning requirements for children.
  • Ensure that the high standards expected in the delivery of care are upheld, and that the standing of the Organisation is maintained.
  • Take the lead in ensuring an open culture is created, one in which children feel that they can complain and that they are listened to.
  • Ensure that the home functions in such a manner that staff, children understand, recognise and celebrate the diversity of cultures and beliefs within the local and wider community.
  • Work in collaboration with Human Resources to manage all employee relations within the home, in line with current employment legislation and A Wilderness Way Ltd’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide staff with sufficient information that ensures they understand the role of a key worker and devise monitoring systems, which will ensure this is delivered to a high standard.
  • Promote and actively encourage the professional development of staff.
  • At all times promote and ensure anti discriminatory practice.
  • Promote and actively encourage the delivery of a safe, structured and nurturing environment.
  • Safeguard and protect the health and well being of children.
  • To assist in the motivation of young people to take an active part in decision making and be involved as much as possible to the design and delivery of the service they receive.
Other requirements:
  • Provide on call support including evenings and weekends on a rota system.
  • Provide support to other services within the organisation when required.
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Knowledge of the National Care and Quality Standards
  • Knowledge of Scottish standards and SSSC requirements
  • Relevant qualifications in line with Care Inspectorate requirements
  • To carry out a proportion of the contract on shift including sleep-ins paid at an enhanced rate
